The Mortal and the Goddess

When we’re children we’re told stories of a time where men fought monsters for fun, the gods were abusive with their power, and unbelievable creatures lived where we do now. To a child, these stories are just tales our parents tell us at night. But all tales have a beginning, a truth from which they all stem from. There are many tales, but let’s start with a romantic tale. One such tale is that of the Goddess who fell in love with a mortal.

                                           .........................................................

In a time where Gods ruled the land, there was a Goddess called Mira. Mira was known as the Goddess of Beauty. There were no other women, mortal or Goddess alike who could match her beauty. It was said that many Gods fought for her attention at one time and even led to a great battle between the God of War and Death, but that is a tale for another time. Mira was said to have been more than her beauty, she was also clever, and known to be a sadist. But how could a goddess of beauty be a sadist you may wonder. Well it is quite simple really. Although Mira had unrivaled beauty and most Gods fighting for her attention, she felt unsatisfied. For all of her cleverness, Mira could not find a solution to her problem. She would give attention to the Gods who approached her, but would quickly feel empty again and leave them.

Although Mira was known as the Goddess of Beauty, she had not received any prayers from mortals and had any shrines built in her name. So maybe it was an accident or was it fate when she heard her name being called upon by a mortal. Like a child that finds a toy for the first time, Mira rushed to the mortal realm to find out more about this mortal. However she did not appear in the mortal realm as she had expected, instead she was inside of a dream. Before her was a fat and ugly mortal, who dressed as if he was a King. When she appeared before him, he smiled and fell to his knees and praised her. Then asked for her to bless him and make his wife as beautiful as herself. He said he would do anything for it to happen. Mira, being clever decided to accept his wish, however he must complete a single task, kill a dragon alone. The task would be impossible to complete, but the mortal said he would do anything. Mira watched as the mortal king left his kingdom and tried to slay a dragon. Of course he was no match and died horribly. But this is the point in Mira’s story that changed her nature. Watching that mortal king try and fail to accomplish his goal, filled Mira with a feeling of excitement. From then on, Mira would approach men in their dreams and corrupt them with desire and lust for her. Married men, kings, young boys, one by one fell for her and died trying to accomplish a task given by her.

All of them men she visited, none of them became more than just a quick injection of excitement for her. All except for one. A young boy, only 13, was approached in his dream. Mira had done this many times, but when she approached the boy, he seem unfazed by her beauty. She asked him what is it he wanted and if she was beautiful, but the young boy never answered her. The dream would end, and Mira felt something she could not describe. This was the first time she was denied. She would approach him again and again, but every time he would not answer. She begun to alter his dreams and place him in scenarios that would make him grow attached to her. This would include keeping him in a dream for long periods of time where they lived together as a family, even going as far as making herself younger to act as a sister. But not once did he answer her. Years went by and every night she would appear and he would not answer. It was not until he turned 17 that he asked her a question, will you be mine. Surprised but feeling excited, Mira answered his question. She agreed to be his but only if he were to accomplished a task. She tasked him with killing a dragon. He agreed and went to accomplish this. It took him one year, but he had done it. When she appeared again, she was felt something more than excitement. This young man was the first to accomplish one of her task. He told her that he would do another task if she was not satisfied, and so he did. For several years he would accomplish task after task. Mira felt something, which she thought was a new kind of excitement, but the way she begun to look at the mortal showed what that excitement was.

She finally told him that she could not be hers because she was a Goddess and he was a mortal, but if he were to accomplish one last task, she would become a mortal and become his. She tasked him with conquering the world. The now 30 year old man accepted this task, but asked that she would not watch him during this time and would instead return to the God realm and wait for his call. She agreed quite quickly, but did not notice. Once she was in the God realm, she waited, and waited, and waited some more. Many years had passed since she returned and Mira was growing unsettled. She begun to think of all of the men she could be corrupting if she was not waiting for this one mortal. But why was she remaining in the God realm, why was she agreeing to not watch the mortal. It was not until many more years later that Mira had heard her name being called. However it was not the voice of the man she remembered. She returned to the mortal realm, but was in physical form this time inside of a structure. She was standing face to face with a statue in her image. A voice behind her was that of a priest, to young to be the man she knew. The priest bowed before her and then told her of the man she was waiting for. That man had journeyed out into the world and after gathering people who would listen to him, he formed a religion. A religion based upon the Goddess of Beauty. This was a religion of a Goddess who uses the desires and lust of men to challenge them to do impossible things.  But if they accomplished what she would ask them to do, they would achieve greatness and become legends.

The priest tells Mira that there are shrines and buildings all over the world dedicated to her. She asked where is the man she waited for, but the priest tells her that today marks the third year after his death. Mira felt saddened. She finally realized what that feeling so long ago was. She was afraid of losing him. She had fallen in love with a mortal, and didn’t know what she had until it was gone. Staying true to her word, Mira had become a mortal and was said to have killed herself to find her lost love in the afterlife. As the years rolled on, the religion grew and their story, went from fact, to legend, to myth. It was whispered that on death Mira was reunited with her love, however how can one truly know the truth with such things.

A White Crows intorduction

I'm Javon Fulmore and I'm one of the writers for the Tale-Keeper and White Crow on the facebook page.. The Tale-Keeper is sort of like the milestone in my career as a writer. It means that I've gotten this far in my dream and it can only get better from here. I have a ton of stories that I can't wait to share and post on to the site, such as Redalion's Legacy, Tale of Grey, to name a few. Hunter's Order is one of my favorite stories that I've written and one of many issues to come from this story is already on the site. Hunter's Order is a story where human evolution is no longer a theory, but fact. And the world must decide whether to accept this change or deny it. One young man is caught in the middle or better yet, he forces his way into the thick of the conflict as he strives to protect what he cares for most.

As a team we are looking forward to posting more of our stories on the site and hear your reactions and thoughts on the stories, from plot line to characters. Writing is something I love, and I can not see myself ever stopping. That's it for me, until next time.

Origin of the Tale Keeper Website

Life is one great story and our lives are the chapters in its book. We, who roam this earth, are naught but gods, ruling over the worlds we create through the use of literature and books.
                                          -Keith Hunter

I've always been a person to really take joy in appreciating life and all of its many joys. I've always loved a good story. Everything in the world, everything in existence, be it man, plant, animal, bug, planet, space or even atoms has its own story. Everything has its own tale to tell of how it came to be and how it ended up where it was currently at. Some stories were way more important than others. Some stories were more interesting than others but nonetheless, regardless of what the story was about or included, the one fact remained true. Everything in existence has its own story.

Realizing this fact was a bit startling for me at first. I couldn't quite grasp why such a simple fact that is nothing more than common knowledge, stirred me so deeply and was tugging at my strings of creativity so heavily. It was a simple fact that even the smallest of children knew and yet I was deeply inspired by it. The thought of everyone and everything having its own story to tell caused me question and research things like religion, god, creativity and the very concept of imagination in itself. If everything and everyone had its own story to tell, then what was the point of life and death if there was no one to hear and appreciate these magnificent stories? If everything has its own story then what was God? According to certain beliefs, "God" is the entity that supposedly created all life and things in the existence. If that was true, then is "God" the entity that hears everything's story and appreciates them? Maybe I was thinking a bit too deeply about this but I wanted to believe that there was something out there that not only heard the infinite amount of stories that comes with existence but also appreciated them. After all, the worst thing you can do to a story is to write it or see it unfold but never tell it to anyone or anything. Above all else, stories are meant to be told, appreciated and learned from.

Regardless of my deepening thoughts, I began to question everything. There was a lot in life that I didn't understand. Everything I learned from my research led me to appreciate life and all it entailed more. I was deeply intrigued by the fact that everything has its own story. As the days went by and my research deepened, I started to see and understand life on a deeper level; deeper than I've ever did before.  My research and constant questioning, taught me that all life was precious, no matter how big or small. Everything in life was to be appreciated and each day that we are gifted with was a day that we should take joy and pride in. After all, how could we not be happy about waking up to another day? Regardless if anything significant happened or not, it was another day to add another page to our life story.

This new perspective on life caused inspiration to hit me in the face with a bag of bricks. My mind just didn't want to stop producing ideas for stories to tell. But even though I was super inspired to write and draw new stories along with new pieces of art, I soon discovered that I was about to face a huge problem. Stories and art are meant to be shared with others. It’s a waste if you keep these things to yourself. So if that was true, if that is what I believed, then I had no right to keep my artwork and stories to myself despite my personal opinion on skill level. Regardless to what I feared my audience would think about my craft, I felt that as a writer and an artist, I had a duty to share my work with others.

So it was soon after that realization, that I created the idea of the Tale Keeper. The lore behind the Tale keeper is that it’s a fictional force or entity that lived in a mysterious library. It not only recorded every story in existence, but it also would read over and appreciate them. Though I created this new character, story and idea, I didn’t really want to create an actual story for it (even though I could). The Tale Keeper was more than just another idea to me. I wanted it to mean something more. Instead of being a story of a force that records, collects and read the stories of existence and everything in it, I wanted it to actually play its role. But I didn’t know how. Then after some time passed, that’s when the idea of a website came to mind. I never did like the idea of having all of my stories and works scattered all across the internet on various website accounts that I probably won't remember the password for. I wanted to have a permanent home for my work and stories. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the way how technology progressed and how easy it was for me to have free places online to share my work, my craft in a judgment free online community. Also, now that you can pretty much access the internet from anywhere, it was easy for anyone to get access to the websites that would be home to my works. But still, I didn't like that idea. I wanted more than that. I didn’t want to be just another artist and writer in a vast online community. I wanted my own. I wanted a permanent home for my work. A place online where all of my work was in one place and everyone who wanted to read and enjoy it can do so by simply visiting the home where it was located.

It was soon after realizing this desire of mine that everything started to come together.  I had all the pieces; all I needed to do was just to put them all together. I decided to let the Tale Keeper be the poster child of my work and to let the official website be the home to my stories. The Tale Keeper website was going to be a vast library of different stories written by myself and some others if the opportunity to do so arises in the near future. The main content that would be featured on the site was going to be comic books, but that was only because I loved comic books and I felt that they were fun to read, easy to enjoy, and overall pleasant to look at; more so than a huge wall of text. The site is fairly new so besides a few stories, it doesn't really have anything else on it. But that doesn't mean it is going to stay that way. There are a ton of stories currently being worked on and even more projects currently being put underway. Some future features of the site are going to be text style story games, short story comic book video strips, and an original animated series. The Tale Keeper Website has always been a long time dream of mine and I can’t begin to tell you how long it took me to get this project to where it is currently at. Even though the site is in its early stages, I hope that you enjoy the site and all of the stories that will be featured on it, in whatever form it may take.
